BUSINESS: SUGALIDAL IS No. 2 WORLD IN TOMATO CONCENTRATE

Portuguese Group Sugalidal rose in the world ranking to become the second largest producer of tomato concentrate.

AThe April edition of "TomatoLand", a specialized publication for the sector, reported that in 2012, the company, whose biggest selling brand is the Greedy, rose 13 places in the rankings, led by Morning Star US. In 2012 the Sugalidal processed 1,150 million tonnes of tomatoes, an increase of 143% compared to 2011. The Sugalidal ended the year with a share of 3.5% of the world market, the company.

The success of Sugalidal came after its acquisition in mid-2012 to the Chilean producer Tresmontes Luchetti, an operation that resulted in a doubling of its annual production.

Later, in 2012, Sugalidal also taken a large Spanish factory in Seville. Concentrates Sugalidal tomato supply global brands that are fresh and frozen pizzas, as Heinz, Dr.Oetker and Panzani.
